Interview with Wang Luyan

How did you get started?

In fact Ibegan very early in what is now known as Chinese contemporary art,since I had joined the Star group in 1979.And this group was the most subversive movement in the recent history of our contemporary art.Its importance derives from the value judgements that it made of society,against the academy,against the social system.Among the unofficial and anti-establishment artistic movements,the Star group was the one that proved the most virulent in its attacks on the system.Its sway reached beyond beyond the realm of art and had a considerable influence on society.
